March 8 - 10
And it’s one of our favorite holidays at ComedySportz. Ensemble member Josh Breit describes this Jewish holiday as a “combination of Halloween and Mardi Gras.” It celebrates the story of Purim, in which Esther saves the Jews from the King’s evil, anti-Semitic henchman Hamen, whose plan to annihilate all the Jews in the land is foiled.
Josh explains, “We eat triangular cookies called Hamentashen, modeled after Hamen’s triangular hat. Many people go to temple dressed up as characters from the story, and there is usually a festival, including carnival games outside the temple following the service.” Josh says he won many a live goldfish at these events due to his skill at ring toss.
Purim is observed from sundown on Wednesday, March 7 through sundown, Thursday March 8. ComedySportz will be celebrating the holiday Thursday March 8 through Saturday, March 10 with $6.00 kosher wine and free Hamentashen, so come join us. There may even be some free goldfish prizes (Crackers? Maybe. Actual fish? No.)
St. Patrick's Day Weekend
March 15 - 17
Red and blue are the usual ComedySportz colors, but on St. Patty’s weekend, we’re adding a dash of green to our palette! Wear green to our shows March 15 through 17th and there’s a very good chance you’ll be chosen to compete on stage and win a St. Patty’s Day prize!
We’ll be asking for Irish-themed suggestions for our games, so start on your research into counties in Ireland, famous Irish singers and songs, Irish foods and drinks, so you can come up with some really hard ones for our players. We’ll be tailoring our usual games, scenes and songs to honor the occasion.
Our bar will be stocked with green beer, of course, but we’ll also have $4 pints of Guinness and $4 shots of Jameson all weekend.
Order your tickets early – our 8 PM show on Saturday, March 17th is already sold out and tickets for the remainder of the weekend are going fast! Call 773-549-8080 or visit tickemaster.com to make your reservations.
