|Rene Duquesnoy, ComedySportz Ensemble Member and Creator of "The MadSkillz Project"|
The MadSkillz Project:
A conservatory for hiphop improv comedy
Opening in March of 2011, ComedySportz will
offer a three-level conservatory-style program in improvised rap based
on its popular elective "MadSkillz." Developing the program is Chicago
improv favorite Rene Duquesnoy: co-creator of improv's first rap show,
"The Beatbox" and also a long-time performer and teacher with
ComedySportz. Over the course of the program, participants will learn
how to rap, how to incorporate rap into short-form and long-form
structures, and how to bring the attitude and energy of hiphop into all
Each level of training features four sessions of 2 hours and 50 minutes
each with a MadSkillz instructor, and culminates in a showcase for a
live audience. After the initial launch, ComedySportz plans to expand
the program with additional performance opportunities as well as
Master's Classes in advanced hiphop and improv concepts. As this
program is designed to be a conservatory experience for advanced
students, entry requires completion of ComedySportz's 505 class or
permission from the instructor.
Based on our popular "MadSkillz" elective, this 3-level program trains
students in the use of Hiphop in improv comedy. From the actual act of
rapping, to the infusion of Hiphop's characteristic energy confidence
into every scene, this program is recommended for improv students with
experience in short-form and traditional musical improvisation.
